This week, change of scenery š! We are going to the kingdom of the living, to discover the wonderful universe of bees š and their different magic potions, the best known of which is honey šÆ. Did you know that there are 20,000 species of bees in the world āļø And if there is an animal that is not unemployed it is her! A tireless worker š , she produces an astronomical amount of honey and many other substances, including pollen, royal jelly or propolis š². This is what we will see together. Come on, let's go š!
First let's talk about the hive: everything is extremely well organized there and each representative š plays a clear, neat and precise role there š ā¦ the world of human work could also take seed ā¦ or pollen ā¦ but that's another topic. The responsibilities of our dear bees š evolve with their age: š From birth, they are on cleaning duty to keep the hive clean. š From cleaners they go to feeders and produce the famous royal jelly which the queen š and her larvae will eat. š From feeders, they then become waxes and make, as their name suggests, wax in order to create new cells and thus expand their habitat. š Then, they become ventilators and produce natural air conditioning because they just have to flap their wings š§āāļø to avoid too high a rise in temperature... it is still 36Ā° C inside a hive !!! Even in Mauritius š²šŗ we rarely get there š . š Once they are strong enough, they are promoted to the rank of guardians š® āļø whose heavy task will be to defend the hive from invaders. š When lady bee š has proven herself and accomplished all these roles, she can finally GO OUT ā¼ļø Like what, all those š that we observe in our gardens had to follow this initiatory journey before being able to exercise their real profession: that of stealing and gathering flowers š¼šŗšø. When you see them, maybe you'll never see them the same way again š. Once their freedom is regained, she will make it on the road š£ļø ā¦ yes, several dozen flights a day, covering 1 to 3 km each time! A real air marathon š ! And... at the end of its life, rather than returning to its hive, the bee chooses one last flower š„ to let itself die there... solidarity, it will be until the end š¤š¤š¤.
But why tell you all this ā Simply to share the fascinating side of this universe . Did you know that it takes nearly 14,000 hours of work and a distance traveled equivalent to a world tour š to produce 1 kilo of honey šÆ ā I don't think you will eat honey šÆ the same way from now on š. Let's talk about šÆ HONEY šÆ now: It comes from the transformation of plant nectar. It starts in the digestive tract of the bee š to continue in the hive. We know that honey šÆ has many virtues, but what exactly are they ā Here are a few :
šÆ Antioxidants (aging prevention), especially darker honeys. šÆ Promotes the fixing of mineral salts: calcium or magnesium for example for the good health of our bones and our teeth . šÆ Source of minerals and trace element šÆ Beneficial action on intestinal flora and very digestible šÆ Immune system booster šÆ Anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial for the ENT sphere (nose, throat, ears): we know, when we're sick š¤š·š¤§ we eat honey! šÆ Anti-inflammatory for the digestive sphere as well šÆ Laxative effect and stimulates diuresis (urine production) šÆ Beneficial action on blood lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides) šÆ Powerful healing effect in external applications on wounds or burns (thyme and Manuka honey) šÆ Beneficial in case of sleep disorders: 1 to 2 teaspoons at bedtime šÆ Replaces sugar remarkably well whether in your drinks or in the kitchen and is suitable for diabetics, all proportion kept of course. Honey is a living food whose properties change with heat āļø and light š”. I therefore advise you to buy raw honey (unheated), of good quality of course, and to keep it in a dry, rather cool place away from light. For Maurice š²šŗ, as āāfresh is rather rare here š, put it in the fridge āļø. And for herbal teas šµ, wait for them to cool a little before adding this precious nectar. Special attention will go to Manuka honey, the champion š in case of illness š·š¤š¤§. Its antiseptic and anti-bacterial virtues are clearly superior to other honeys šŖ. Why ā Because it contains a factor that other honeys do not have, it is UMF. What does UMF š§ mean? Unique Manuka Factor is pretty self-explanatory š.
Oops, oops, oops š¤¦āāļø ā¦ I didn't see the time pass ā³, or rather should I say: I didn't see the number of words scrolling on my screen š»! I'm racing, I'm racing and here is the result š¤·āāļø: I'm coming to the end of page 2 of my article and I haven't even told you about pollen, propolis or royal jelly yet š . I will therefore have to bow š āļø to the sad fate of this article : to be incomplete š! This will be short-lived š because I'll meet you next week to complete this exciting topic ššš. Receive my warm thoughts š¤ and have a great weekend š. āØš Miam la Vie āØāØāØ and Miam š honey šÆ!
