Magical thought n° 150

“No more than a mere obstacle for high-achieving executives, and certainly not the preserve of the weak or the underachievers.

We aren't 'on the verge of burnout' every time we feel tired, or even overworked, and a week or a month off work isn't enough to ward it off.

Burnout is serious and extremely dangerous. It's the culmination of a process riddled with stages that we unconsciously and involuntarily go through, one after the other and under certain conditions, until the final collapse, or not.

It's a death march that can lead to death.

Inability to get out of bed in the morning, panic attacks, epilepsy, agoraphobia, fibromyalgia, cardiac arrest, stroke, accident, suicide…

And always, as a bonus, depression. Burnout is no laughing matter.

So let's stop joking about it.”

I myself went through burnout.

I had never taken a single day of sick leave.

And then came the fall.

Brutal.

Nine months off work.

And a slow climb back towards the light.

It changed my life.

At what cost…

The prevalence of burnout is clearly increasing.

Are we really surprised?

Don't wait until you get there.

Stop before…

I wish you a wonderful week, fully aware of the preciousness of life, and the futility of so many things that nevertheless seem essential.
